Information for the
Public Speaking Super Powers Project

How It All Started

super herosIt all started with an imaginative blog post that asked the question, "If public speakers were superheroes, what would their super powers be?" I had no idea how much that post would resonate with people. No matter where I posted it ... article sites, blogs ... it always attracted the most readers.

When I learned how popular that little post was, I was inspired to create something bigger, better and more helpful for people who want to either become professional speakers or use speaking as a way to grow their business. In fact, I interviewed 82 speakers -- both professional speakers and business owners who use speaking to promote themselves -- in preparation for writing this book. About half of them are pictured here:

Some of the speakers interviewed for this project

Now I need to pull all that information together and translate it into a readable, accessible and engaging book. But, Public Speaking Super Powers is more than just a book ... although that will be the first step in its ever growing empire (did I mention that I have a hard time thinking small?). All the audio interviews will be made available as sets of audio programs. There will be readers' guides and study guides for all potential types of readers:

  • Entrepreneurs and small business owners
  • Up-and-coming professional speakers
  • College students
  • High-school students

I also have plans for spin-off books and a sequel (tentatively titled Public Speaking Super Villains: Mishaps and Challenges at the Lectern and How to Gracefully Overcome Them).

Public Speaking Super Powers uses the metaphor of superheroes and their powers to show people the skills and techniques used to create effective presentations, and how they can easily be nurtured and developed by anyone who wants to learn.

Goals for this Project

It is my hope that this book, and its associated products and services, will help entrepreneurs, small business owners and budding professional speakers improve their speaking skills and use them to grow their careers and businesses. The funds raised by this campaign will go toward creating the book and launching it.

What Your Donation Helps With

The scope of this project is too much for me to do alone (believe me, I've tried!). I need help and this is where you come it. Your donation will help me hire the help and purchase the resources I need to do this project the right way.

About the Artists

Dolores DelgadoCOVER ART:
Dolores Delgado, an artist based in Sebastopol, Calif. Delgado’s love of art revealed itself in elementary school, poring over tomes of ancient Greek sculpture. By the age of 11, she was sketching figures and nudes from photographs. She is captivated by the works of the masters, especially Rembrandt for capture of light and dark and John Singer Sargent for his loose style — combining impressionism with realism.

INTERIOR ART:
I'm looking at several potential Interior artists at this time. As soon as one is chosen, his or her information will go here.
