Podcast Highlights
Length: 15 minutes, 32 seconds
Although Maria Ross had an inclination to public speaking from a young age, she believes that anyone can learn to be a competent speaker. In this episode, she talks about engaging with and reading an audience and touches on telling stories, as well.
Maria Ross’s Big Tip: Know that “the audience is on your side,” Ross says. “They are not the enemy. They are not wanting you to fail.” To help you do this, “remember that it’s not about you, it’s about them. So you need to remember that your audience and what they care about and what they need to hear is the most important thing. Not what you want to say.”
Become a student of body language
In this episode, Maria Ross mentioned that learning how to read body language was a key skill for reading the room. Here are some resources to help you add this skill to your Public Speaking Super Utility Belt.
